Carolyn Brookhart, MD

Dr. Brookhart grew up outside Boston and attended Wellesley College, where she majored in chemistry and played lacrosse. She received her medical degree from the UNC School of Medicine and was a pediatric resident at Children’s Hospital Oakland in California. After completing her medical training, Dr. Brookhart moved back to New England and worked as a pediatrician in a community health center and at Boston Medical Center. She was also an Instructor of Pediatrics in the Boston University School of Medicine. Six years later, Dr. Brookhart returned to North Carolina with her husband to raise their two children.  Prior to founding Chatham Pediatrics, Dr. Brookhart worked for over a decade in private practice in Chapel Hill and the greater Triangle area.

Dr. Brookhart is dedicated to providing exceptional care to her patients and partnering with families to help raise children for lifelong health. She is passionate about pediatrics and is honored to care and advocate for a diverse patient population. 

In her free time, Dr. Brookhart enjoys traveling and spending time with her family and friends, attending CrossFit workouts, and watching ACC basketball.  She is an avid gardener and is currently cultivating a monarch butterfly garden.


Katharine Delgado, MD, MSPH

Dr. Katie Delgado was raised in Hanover, NH, where her family owned an independent bookstore. She is a graduate of Brown University and  Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.  She came to North Carolina for her pediatric and preventive medicine training at UNC Hospitals, and received her Masters of Science in Public Health from UNC-Chapel Hill. Prior to founding Chatham Pediatrics, Dr. Delgado worked at a community health center in Chatham County and a private pediatric practice in Chapel Hill.  

Dr. Delgado enjoys getting to know families from diverse backgrounds and working collaboratively with parents to provide high quality care for their children. She is fluent in Spanish after studying in Bolivia and Mexico.  

Dr. Delgado and her husband have 3 children and have had the opportunity to be foster parents to several others. When she is not on the sidelines of her daughter's soccer games, Dr. Delgado enjoys spending her free time reading or taking long walks with her energetic, rescue hound.   She has been amazed to watch her older boys transform into young adults, and is always happiest when all her children are at home.


Margaret Campbell, FNP

Margaret Campbell grew up in Charlotte. She completed her nursing degree at the University of Pittsburgh, studied Spanish in Guatemala, and then returned to NC to complete her graduate degree at UNC. As a Family Nurse Practitioner, Margaret is a nurse who has received additional education, certification, and licensure, enabling her to diagnose and treat medical conditions and be a primary care provider. Before joining Chatham Pediatrics, she worked at a local public health department and community health centers. Her clinical areas of interest include lactation, LGBTQ health, and sexual/reproductive health.

Margaret enjoys working collaboratively with patients and their families to build relationships focused on promoting health and well-being. She provides medical services in both English and Spanish, and she loves working with patients with diverse backgrounds.

Margaret and her husband have one child and one dog. Outside of work, Margaret enjoys spending time with her family and friends, baking with her young daughter, hiking, and reading.


Sonia Lai, MS, IBCLC, Lactation Consultant

Sonia Lai grew up in Apex, NC and attended UNC Charlotte. She was an elementary school teacher for 5 years before marrying a soldier and beginning a life of travel for the next 18 years. Sonia had her first child while living in Japan, and she found herself thrown into the world of parenthood with no support when she had breastfeeding struggles. Sonia completed her Master’s degree in Health Science with a focus in Community Health Education. She then completed lactation training at UNC in 2013, becoming an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), which is the highest-level certification for a lactation professional.

As an IBCLC, Sonia has worked in postpartum care, the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and outpatient lactation clinics. Sonia has led quality improvement projects for feeding premature infants, presented at national conferences, and received a March of Dimes award for her work improving feeding outcomes for premature infants. Sonia is now program director for the lactation program at Portland State University. Sonia is passionate about helping families achieve their individual feeding goals. She strives to provide personalized and compassionate care.

Outside of work Sonia is an avid Tarheel fan. She is a mom to two active teenagers. Her husband is now a retired soldier. Sonia is back in Apex and she does not plan to ever leave again!
